BLUE ARCHIPELAGO operates the 3rd largest shrimp farm in Malaysia. At 463 hectares, the farm in Kerpan, north west of Malaysia, is capable of producing 1,500 metric tonnes of premium quality Black Tiger Shrimps (Peneaus Monodon) or 4,000 tonnes of Whiteleg Shrimp (Litopenaeus Vannamei) annually. The Farm is currently undergoing a transformation to become a fully integrated shrimp aquaculture operation. A 20 tonne per day processing plant and a hatchery that is able to produce more than 120 million post larvae per month will be fully operational by February 2010. The integrated aquaculture operation will enable the company to produce high quality products consistently and with full traceability. The land where the farm in situated in Kerpan is owned by Kedah Aquaculture Sdn Bhd (KASB), a join venture company between the Ministry of Finance Incorporated and the Kedah State Government. Blue Archipelago entered into a management agreement with KASB in Jan 2008 for a tenure of 30 years. |

16th JUNE 2009, PETALING JAYA: Blue Archipelago Bhd, a government linked company which produces premium quality shrimps for the export market, will be launching a training program in Kerpan, Kedah aimed at upgrading the skills of shrimp aquaculturists of the company and ultimately the industry as whole. The Certificate in Shrimp Aquaculture (CISA) program is jointly developed with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is a 4-stage certification programme that upon completion, the participants of the programme will receive a certificate that is equivalent to a diploma. |
